I have had a couple of situations where the screws holding the mouth plates on my Crossover keep loosening. Is this common?

Loose Cover Plate Screws

Not as common as years past, but it does, and will occur from time to time. Although Hohner uses POZI drive screws, small jewelers philips screwdrivers will do just fine for tightening up your cover plate screws.
