Hi David,

I have started working through I Want You With Me, and the accompaniment study is great fun and a really good way of taking a break from some of the more challenging lessons. Not that this doesn't have challenging elements in it.

However I always miss coming in with the band by about 1/2 a beat. Is there a subtle clue as to when the band is about to start which I may be missing or do I just need to keep listening more to the pick up until it is set in my head?

Also am I right in saying that excercise 1.12 can be played with both of the slow blues and boogie you have given us in Acc Study 1, it's just getting the timing right for those tracks? And for the submission we would pick one of those 4 tracks?

Kind Regards

Alan

I'm glad you're enjoying it

I'm glad you're enjoying it Alan. I really enjoy that study as well, it's fun to develop that side of our skill set as musicians, and this skill is extremely practical.

The guitar plays a three-beat pickup. One way to think about it is that pickups go backwards in time from beat 1 (when the full band comes in). When we count a band in, we go 1 2 3 4 and then we all start. So in this case, the band counts 1 and then Jon starts on beat 2 and continues to play beats 3 and 4, with the band coming in on beat 1 of the I chord (one chord), which is the beginning of the 12 Bar Blues Progression. How you should count Jon's playing is 2 3 4 and then you play.

In regards to your other question, 1.12 is not well-suited for slow blues, use Ex. 1.15 for that. It is well-suited for shuffles and anything faster.

Thanks for that David, I will

Thanks for that David, I will put it into practice. For the ACC study 2 excercise 1.12 it says a jam track of our choosing but I guess sticking with  I want you with me would be fine or would you prefer us to use a different track
