I'm a lefty, so I feel that my wawas are much better if I use my left hand; is it alright if I hold my harmonica with my right and use my left for the wawas, I know it's contrary to what is in the lesson but I just want to know if this could cause me any problems in later lessons.

If it works . . .

When you're dealing with the diatonic harmonica there's no downside that I know of. As a (mostly) right-handed person I went back and forth with no teacher input and finally setled on holding it in the left hand.

if you were sitting next to other harmonica players in a harmonica orchestra and everyone else was swingin their right hand or forearm out and you were swinging the left, that could cause some accidents, but I imagine that scenario is unlikely to come up.(This is why you never see orcehstral violinists play lefty - that bow could poke someone's eye out.)

If you decide to play the chromatic harmonica, though, the slide button is on the right and if you want to use it, then you need to find a way to use your right index finger for that purpose. It's easier if you hold the harp in the left hand. A few models of chromatic (the 270 Deluxe comes to mind) allow you to swap the slide to the left side.
