Left handed holding
Thu, 05/09/2019 - 10:01
Hi David,
I am left handed, average size hands, and prefer to hold the harp with my right hand and use my left to do wah wahs. Any tips or ideas on how I can best do this?
thanks,
aaron

Hello Aaron. Have you explored the "two-thumbs-up" method of holding that I teach? It's worth looking into. The disadvantage of holding the harmonica with your right hand is when playing with a bullet microphone (amplified playing). Holding the harmonica with your left hand, the mic is centered at the low end of the harmonica (where we spend most of our time). When holding with the right hand, the mic is centered on the higher notes (we don't spend much time there). The two-thumbs-up method uses both hands to hold, and is good for amplified playing. Using both hands may be more comfortable than using the left hand. If you're not thinking amplified playing will be something you'll be interested in in the future, then keep holding with the right, and just mirror what I'm speaking of for left-hand holders.
