Leaky edges

Hi Kinya, lately I'm playing and modding my special 20. I think that they have nothing less than a crossover, but I'm dealing with and issue: the plates and the combs create some leaky spots near the edge of the reedplate. It's not a problem on the back, but on the left side, when tongue blocking there Is a massive air leakage (see attached photo https://ibb.co/1mRwR6r ).

How do you usually deal with this? How do you seal these spots?

Hello Tia, the trick is always to have the flattest reed plates marry up to a flat comb. Although my recent posting was regarding a bowed BLOW Plate on a Marine Band Crossover, the operating principles are the same.

If you found your BLOW Reed Plates are super flat:

  1. swap out the SP20 comb with another SP20 comb that you know seals well
  2. contact Tom Halchak at Bluemoon Harmonicas <info@BlueMoonHarmonicas.com> https://bluemoonharmonicas.com/collections/hohner-special-20 He'll hook you up with the best fitting Special 20 combs available

Tom Halchak's Blue Moon Combs

I second that emotion re Tom's combs. Not only cool colors and nicely milled, but also with beveled holes, like the Rocket combs. Well worth it.
