Hi Greg, I purchased a Kalamazoo a few months ago, and it sounds great, no hums and everything on it works as it should. But I read your other article on the brown filter cap, that will need to be replaced. So I thought I would check mine, and it has the old brown paper cap with the wires coming out. My question is, the red wire that is coming out of the filter is not connected to anything. Is it suppose to be connected to something, or is that correct. Also do you have a part number, brand of filter cap you recommend. Thanks in advance.

That is not correct. It

That is not correct. It SHOULD be connected to the rectifier tube socket, at the pin connected to the blue wire of the output transformer and the power tube via 3.3K resistor. It is possible someone put a new cap there and is still using the other 2 caps of the old unit./Greghttp://blowsmeaway.comhttp://facebook.com/blowsmeawayproductions

Thanks Greg, upon farther

Thanks Greg, upon farther inspection, it looks as though it has had new caps put in there, and someone just left the old cap in there disconnected. Do you recommend a speaker upgrade for these, or is the original speaker as good as it gets for these. Thanks

I think the stock CTS AlNiCo

I think the stock CTS AlNiCo speaker sounds excellent. Changing speakers will indeed change the sound, but I don't think it is realistic to say "better" or "worse" - only "different".

Hi - honestly it doens't

Hi - honestly it doens't matter. The brand of caps in the power filter circuit will not affect tone (as long as they are decvent quality and of the right value.)
