Hello Friends,

I am a bit more than a beginner and tried a lot of brands

high lever like the crossover and Seydel 1847

but I feel most convenient playing the SP20  Is this because I am a beginner ?

I should have a target to like those high level brands

or its ok to stick with my beloved SP20

I will appreciate your advice

Thank you

Moran

beloved SP20

Moran:

My beginner's opinion: The best harp brand/model for you is the harp you love.

As to the Special 20, keep in mind that the following Hohner Affiliated Customizers all sell customized SP 20s:

  • Andrew Zajac
  • Joe Spiers
  • Richard Sleigh

no! not even close. The

no! not even close. The special 20 is just a really good harp !

This is just personal taste, I did same as you and I ended up loving the sandwitch type (crossover/1847) and that's all I want now but part of that is because they're easier to customize IMO.

I know players who been playing special 20's for 10-15 years and that's all they buy. It's certainly every bit as good as a sandwich type harp !!

(many pros play them too)

Check out David's interview

Check out David's interview of Mark Ford, who sounds as if he's exclusively a straight-out-of-the-box Special 20 player, and loves them. And Mark Ford is no slouch. I own a real variety of brands and models, and just pulled out an SP20 (Bb) that I bought shortly after I first started playing six years ago, and was amazed at how much better it sounded than how I remembered it from back then! I don't think it's the harmonica that improved, sitting in its box in a drawer. Bottom line: Within your budget, play the harp(s) you feel and sound best for you and your music. (And speaking of budget, the SP 20 continues to be a good value.)

I play SP20s. (And, I have have the filled in holes on the left to prove I'm not a beginner!)

But, seriously, they are fine harmonicas. I'm a big believer in playing what is comfortable and feels right.
