Bill "Mud" Morganfield is touring the UK and playing in my home city (Hull, UK) next month as part of the annual jazz festival here (just shows you how blues is marginalised over here when there is no real distinction between jazz and blues). Anyway, we have the ultimate pleasure of opening the night and I am SO excited about the prospect! I know that Steve "West" Weston has been Bill's sideman on a previous tour and I can't wait for the event, hopefully to meet the guys and get autographs, photos, etc. My acoustic trio has been practising and I've posted a tune in the share section of the site that will be in our set. What a great thrill and a buzz! It's Friday 26th July if anyone fancies flying over for it :0)

Fantastic gig!

Last night was one of the best nights I can recall! We played a one hour set early in the night and then did another half hour to warm up the crowd before Mud's set. Everything came together really well; we had a blast playing and the audience gave us a great reception. We had a 5 track CD that sold well and got some great compliments after the gig- I was really buzzing from it!

The main band opened with a couple of instrumentals before Mud came on stage and boy, when he appeared, I was taken aback by the uncanny vocal resemblance to 'pop', as he referred to MW. As Bill56 mentioned above, Mud has a great stage presence and looked to be having a ball himself! The set consisted of classic MW alongside Mud's own contemporary 'funky urban' blues. It was a fantastic set! Steve Weston's classic Chicago harp playing was superb, as were the rest of the band.

We got to meet the boys after the gig for a chat (plus photos and autographs!) which was also brilliant. All in all it was an amazing experience from which I am still reeling today! If you get the chance to see Bill Morganfield then take it for sure as he is carrying the torch for his old man and puts on a show to remember!
