Hi Dave,

What's the best way to work through level 3 material please?

Do I simply work my way down the list starting with the study song, then solo harmonica study 2, accompaniment playing etc. or should I do a bit of each with my daily practice/study?

Thanks

Saul

Hello Saul. You're choice,

Hello Saul. You're choice, whichever works best for your study style... most students do a bit of each, each day.

What worked for me.

Hi Saul,

I just finished level 3 and I wanted to let you know what worked well for me.  I do my best to study twice a day.  My mornings are more unpredictable, so I would focus on the solo harmonica exercises for 30 minutes to 1 hour.  My evenings are a more controlled, so I would usually study for 1 to 2 hours on the study song, focusing on 1 lick or line at a time and not moving on until I could play that line well.  If I found myself getting frustrated, I would switch and work on one of the other studies like Accompaniment.  I always started and finished my evening sessions with the study song.

Once I could play the study song all the way through with the jam track, but with many errors, I began playing the study song at least once and sometime twice before my solo harmonica studies.  I would also try to find other times during the day when I would play the study song just once and then go on about my day.  On days where I took a break from studying, I did my best to play the study song at least once.  I do most of my studying using a laptop, but I also kept the jam track stored on my phone, so I could practice the study song no mater where I was at.

With this method I finished everything in about the same time.  I should also point out that I rushed through level 1 and level 2 and only did what was required.  During level 3 I made sure I could play all the solo harmonica examples from previous levels well.

I hope this helps and good luck.  The main thing is to enjoy what you are working on and take breaks or switch to something else if you get frustrated.

Level 3 was an amazing level for me.  Not having a background in music or even being someone who listened very much to music.  For the first time I could feel when I was out of time playing with the jam track.
