In one week It will have been 2 years since I started playing, however I'm still a beginner as I seem to go through periods of playing constantly and then nothing for about 4 months. I really want to geat good at the harmonica but the problem is I'm not used to sticking with challenging things so I was wondering if anyone could offer advice?

Levels of Achievement

When I first started playing the harmonica only a few years ago I was lucky enough, as you are, to have found Blues Haronica.com and then take the next step which was becoming a member. As you did.

My advice then is to follow the LOA program. It offers you challenges as you progress and through the journey you WILL get better. Take it slow at your pace but stick with the program. For me the motivation was always a new harmonica. I wold not allow myself to purchase one until I had successfully completed a level. And then the next harmonica was related to the next level. Further increasing your diversity and abilities as you work with a new key with the skills you already developed and now the new harp and the new level brings even more challnges yet excitement too. This self reward highly motivated me.

Eventually, and I encourage, you will be playing with other people who may call a key you dont have. Ahhhh, more motivation. I wont say how many harps I now have but suffice to say all 12 keys with many spares.

Stick with it though...the journey is fun. Thats the 'key'!!!!!

my motivation

I am not a motivational expert. But I will share my motivations.

What keeps me going is the joy to make progress. When I start a lesson, I am puzzled by the difficulty, then by working it becomes less and less difficult.

Then there is the greater fun of playing that comes with increased ability.

I try to play 15' in the morning and 15' in the evening.
