Hi skip,
I purchased a Holland custom amp many years ago. It has two twelve inch speakers It has volume normal, volume bright, treble, bass, middle and presence nobs. To be honest I have hardly ever used it because it screeches even at low volume. I have worked on dialing it in to no avail. I have tried numerous microphones. It's been sitting for years. Any ideas? Tim

Holland amp

Hello Tim- Thanks for writing. First, I'm going to assume that feedback is the problem. Holland amps are very high-quality, but are basically made for guitar. If yours has three preamp tubes, it probably uses a circuit very similar to the Fender tweed Bassman, and almost everyone substitutes lower-gain preamp tubes for the original 12AX7 types when setting up the amp for harp. This is the first step in controlling feedback with this amp (except for working on technique!). Check out the "Bassman Chronicles" on BH.com for lots of good tips on this topic.

I'd also suggest disconnecting one speaker.
