Hello,

On my low F Rocket, before recording myself I had not realized that hole 1 was much louder than the others. When playing a chord or an octave, the result is unbalanced in favor of hole 1.

If it was only together with 2 or 3 draw, I would suspect I still have progress to make in enhancing those tones, but it also happens in octave with hole 4 or in blowing.

I like the sound of hole 1. I just wonder if it being louder is usual for a low F? On David's recording for "Sonny's bird", for example, I don't hear this.

Hey Eric, good to hear from

Hey Eric, good to hear from you. Two things:

  1. set your chromatic tuner to 442Hz--with the cover plates installed--blow into hole #1. Your needle should land on 0 ~ 1 cents. If it is higher than that, tune that reed. Sharpened reeds can "cut" and appear louder within the chord.
  2. if you are in the range of 0 ~ 1 cents, then lower the free end of the reed gap to .007

Maybe it's me...

Hello, I was not sure about this, but here is my take for the moment:

- Hole 1 is not too sharp.

- I do not yet have gauges to check the reed gap.

BUT I suspect it may be my technique, after all, even involving hole 4, because I have found a new kind of tongue position that seems to partly correct this. Only partly -- but I will explore this area before touching the reed settings...

I'll come back here then (and when I have feeler gauges to check the gap).

Thanks!
