Hello Larry, welcome to the

Hello Larry, welcome to the site.

The reason why we commonly hold with our left hand is so that we can gather the sound of the left hand side of the harmonica, where we spend the majority of the time (in 2nd Position, the position you're studying right now, we commonly play holes 1-6) into to the mic... or when creating cupping techniques, such as the Wa Wa, we can smother all of the sound into our hands.

If we hold the mic with our right hand, we're off center of where we commonly play.

Try the Two Thumbs Up approach, you may like that, since it uses both hands together https://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/cupping_hand_effects
