Hello Harp Techs

I recentlty reviewed No.5 Harp Tech Series and was pleased to see/hear the video content was relevant and timeless (the only exception was that now you can purchase the Richard Sleigh reed removal anvil).

David and I created seven Harp Tech Series, including:

  1. Getting to Know Your Harmonica
  2. Maintenance and Tools
  3. Tuning
  4. Reed Gapping
  5. Reed Replacement
  6. Reed Slot Sizing
  7. Sjoberg Harp Tuner

For those members not familar with the Harp Tech Studies, we encourage you to binge to your hearts delight ;o)

At the top of your screen, select EQUIPMENT, then scroll down to HARMONICAS ...

hi Kinya, I recall a proposal for another tech series; was it about converting marine band harps? I can't quite remember but I know it's in the back pages here.

Anyway, that's why I was drawn to this thread but not why I'm posting.

i wanted to say, I've been using the Sleigh reed anvil for around a year now. I have used it to replace well over 100 reeds, probably closer to 200.

Its so good to use, I am feeling let-down when I receive a job where I need to replace reeds using screws (e.g. Because a previous repair to same reed was made using screw fastener.)

sometimes it seems screws may allow for more precision in reed alignment, but I have not found that much of an issue.

To move a reed a little left or right, before setting the rivet I file the top of the rivet on an angle. Then when I set the rivet, the reed will move a little toward the high side.

maybe there are other ways to centre a reed while still fixing them with rivets. Richard says he has a 'big-ass piece of equipment' to do that, but he won't show it because he has sworn to keep it secret.

main thing is, the sleigh rivet anvil has been a great addition to my workshop. its paid its way for sure!

all the best!

dave
