Hi David

I have some questions about Harp positions , The first position is same as the Harmonica tune that I think called as straight harp , for example if we have C harmonica the 1st position is C , but about 2nd position , I think it's the 5th degree of scale , for example for C harmonica is G that called as cross harp .

But I have a question about this Chart :
http://www.bluesharmonica.com/sites/bluesharmonica.com/files/private/Pos...

Here the 2nd position is 4th degree of scale , what's the difference between this chart and the others , here the 2nd position for C is F .

Thank you

Iman

Answer

You're correct, second position is based on the 5th of the harmonica key. The chart you reference... you're reading it incorrectly... the harmonica is the middle (grey) column, with the band (2nd Position) key on the left. These charts are sometimes confusing!

Hi David

Thank you for reply , another question about chart.
The 3rd position is dorian scale or not ? the 3rd position here is , F .
because I had read it before in another book ( Teach yourself Blues Harmonica - Peter Gelling ) that the 3rd position on C harmonica is D dorian scale !

Thank you

Iman

Answer

Hello Iman. Yes, 3rd Position is the Dorian mode. Yes, the C Harmonica plays in 3rd Position key of D, this is what the chart says.
