Hi Greg, I've got question on grit, I've just started to get a decent/ok cup going still not good enough TB skill to use when playing with the band but my pucker tone isn't that far off from my TB tone acoustly. I'm using a Bulletini and a JT 30 Roadhouse with an old ceramic element in it the stock JT 30 was pretty thin sounding. Break up wise the Bulletini and ceramic are about the same but the Bulletini has much more bootom end I really like the Bulletini. From what I've read is there isn't a big tone difference from crysal to ceramic elements so I guess my question is all things being equal should a good ceramic element have more grit/break up than a Bulletini ?

Thanks

Lou

crystals

Hi, Lou

You're right that The Heumann Element in the Bulletini is very similar to a ceramic element. Like dynamic elements, crystals vary a great deal. The most impressive crystals I've ever heard were old Shure ones. They had more output and crunch. BUt that is NOT true of crystals in general. An average MC-151 elemnt, which was what came in the majority of JT30's, is a very good element but doesn't have the bass or crunch of those older Shure crystals.

Basically - unless you have the ability to audition a number of crystals, buying one is a pretty big gamble.
