On Joe Filisko's store site he refers to "ghost chording." What is this?

Hello LFS. Ghost chording is generally a term used to say you're playing a chord (multiple holes on the harmonica... blow or draw) very softly between main notes of a phrase... usually used for rhythmic effect.

Lessons with ghost chording

Thanks for your response. Do any of the lessons include ghost chording?

I've been taking the lessons and practicing regularly for the past 12 weeks. I have taken other lessons and played on and off for 45 years. Your lessons have helped to improve and develop my playing more than anything else I have encountered. Thank you for all that you have done to make the lessons so excellent.

Answer

Thank you for your kind words LFS, I'm glad you're finding the material useful. Solo Harmonica Study 1, Ex. 2.6 is one example. Solo Harmonica Study Ex. 2.4 and 2.5 are some more examples. In post-war Chicago blues you'll find it used the most by Little Walter, in instrumentals like "Juke," "Off the Wall," and "Rocker." Think of the technique as very similar to a pull (first taught in Tongue Blocking Study 3), but much softer... so soft that you mostly "feel" it, not so much hear it.
