Getting a fatter tone on the 4 hole

It seems that my 4 draw tone is a little thin. I am happy with my acoustic tone, but amplified it just doesn't seem as fat. There seems to be something about the shape of the chamber in my mouth on the 4 hole that keeps me from getting that fat sound I can get from the 1-3 holes. I can't seem to ge a good "honk" out of it. Dropping my jaw seems to help bit, yet feels unnatural. I understand it is a higher note and not as bassy, but it still seems a tad thin. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer

You're on the right track... focus on dropping the tongue (and jaw in some cases). For the 4 draw it may be the middle of the tongue, not the back, that needs to be dropped... experiment... experiment... experiment. When playing amplified it also helps to tongue block the 4 draw, this way your lips cover holes 1-3, thus helping your cupping to get a more muted tone.
