Hi David,

Please could you help me out. With regards to practicing Garys Blues and The Strut, when I play along with you on the harmonica, I have no difficulty in completing the study songs. When I put the jam tracks on and play along to to the music, without exception I always go wrong and make a mess which obviously throws the timing out for the rest of the song. This usually happens around the second part of the song in both cases. I use the ASD and have slowed the tracks down to around 80%.

I'm getting rather frustrated because I've been practicing these study songs for the last 3 months each song for half an hour every night and then half an hour on another topic. making an hour and half every night The rest of the material I seem to be doing ok with. Should I stop practicing these songs for a few days and concentrate on the other topics and then come back to the study songs. I was hoping to submit level 4 forn the end on November, but cant see that happening now.

Kind Regards,

Paul

Hey Paul. Taking a break can be a good idea sometimes, so that's sure an option.

I recommend you be specific with your study. Record yourself, following along with your finger to the sheet music and find out EXACTLY where you first get off. Circle that area and practice that area. Continue doing this until you can play the entire song with few errors. This is the best use of your time.

It's good to give yourself goals... it helps to push us forward... but ultimately the songs are ready when they're ready, so don't be hard on yourself... let them mature as they may. Remember, you will be able to play them well, you just don't know when.

Hi David,

Many thanks for the advice, I'm determined and motivated so I'll be pushing on. Whilst writing, I'm using the Hohner Blues Harp, but would like to upgrade to the next Hohner Harmonica. What would you suggest.

Many Thanks,

Paul
