hi david

when using a pa/mixer instead of an amp

when you set the gain knob, setting aside the general differences of bullet and hi z dynamics

how do you approach the gain setting?

                   unity,more,less?

this would usually be in live clubs

would there be any difference in the studio?

thanks

tommy

Hello Tommy. I never go

Hello Tommy. I never go direct into the PA, but the protocol would be that the person at the mixer would set your channel volume to 0 (not cutting or adding signal), which would be somewhere around 7 if the mixer doesn't read that way, and then you bring your channel gain up until you blend with the other instruments, Don't play at solo volume at sound check... it should be accompaniment volume... make sure to play softly at sound check (otherwise when you go to solo, you won't be heard well enough).

1 watt amp for practice

hi david

happy new year

thank you for keeping up the site

i did not hear from mark, thanks for passing on my email

i have wonderful amps and mikes now

even the smallest 5 watt is too loud for a neighborhood with apartment buildings

so i do have a tiny plastic amp from china resold by Hohner, which is ok for volume

i think for practice and motivation, a one watt amp might be best for home practice

who knows, even .5 1/2watt or .75 3/4 watt would be best suited for keeping the neighbors at ease

i see many 1 watt amps with an 8"speaker, for example Supro has 1 watt amps with a 8"

the ten inch speaker is usually with a 5 watt amp

i imageine if i buy a 1 watt amp that has a 8" speaker, that i would take out the 8" and try to squeeze a 10"into it

would you have any experience with a 1 watt amp that has a 8" speaker or a ten " speaker

                            a reccommendation ?

thanks as always

tommy

Hello Tommy. Happy New Year

Hello Tommy. Happy New Year to you as well. An 8" would be just fine for your use.
