I'm looking at upgarding from my Shure MV5 USB microphone, replacing it with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 4th Gen audio interface to use with a Shure SM57 microphone for recaording of my amplifier to GarageBand.

Curious whether anyone here has experience with the Focusrite Scarlett and any other recommendations.

Thanks,

Mike

Get it

Very good. I have had one for years and it works very well. Easy to operate.

Thanks!

Thanks for the confirmation. My online research indicates it works well with GarageBand, but I like the reassurance of hearing from someone using it for harmonica work.

Focusrite. Yes indeed.

mblotzer:

You might think about springing for the Scarlett 2i2, with more features. I have an older 2i2 that does it all for me, connected to a Mac laptop. Generally, I run a vocal mic into one channel, and a harp mic into the other (via a reverb pedal). While I usually use headphones, I also have the speaker output connected to an inexpensive mono monitor speaker.

I record using GarageBand, using backing tracks loaded into the Amazing Slow Downer app. I also use the set-up for practice, for Zoom meetings, and for lessons. And I can record my own backing tracks with guitar, banjo or baritone uke, using the channel that I usually use for my harp mic.

The set-up is, for my uses, a complete studio.

Bottom line: Focusrite makes really good products. You won't be disappointed.

(By the way, I also have a Shure MV5, that I use with an iPad when travelling. Great little mic.)

Scarlett 2i2 or Solo...

Nice setup! Thanks for the detailed desciption While the 2i2 looks really nice, my needs are simple. I just want to record study songs off my amp as I work hard on my technique and cupping. But I could exchange the Solo I just picked up for a 2i2 if it helps get the harmonica to both tracks.  I know I need a better understanding of GarageBand and Solo, or I need a cable that splits the mic output to XLR and 1/4" plug inputs on the Solo.

So much to learn...

So that's it!

Yep, it was simple as a changing the input settings in GarageBand from Scarlett Solo 1 & 2 to Scarlett Solo 2.

Now for some fun!
