Hi Dave,

I was wondering the reason why C and E are not among the focus notes. Couldn’t they be used when starting the IV chord during a solo? I suspected maybe focus notes are meant to be used when starting a new chorus only, but still curious.

Thank you.

Good morning myuce. You are

Good morning myuce.

You are correct, the first lick that you play is on the I Chord, and thus why Focus Notes are notes of the I7 Chord.

If you are changing your lick when the IV comes (like in the A B/A C Chorus Form) you no doubt would be making a good decision to start that lick with a C or an E since they're part of the chord.
