Hi David,

I was going to purchase first mic and amp, something for in-home use and to get started with. Based on info from watching the FAQ on this topic, I was going to look at getting Shure 520 DX Green Bullet Mic and Fender Super Champ XD Amp. Is that material still current and good entry point equipment for my use?

You also mention about Effects in that FAQ topic. Is that something necessary to add at the same time, or for something down the road (I'm a super novice when it comes to equipment).

Thank you.

Peter

Hello Peter. The newer

Hello Peter.

The newer version of the amp is the Fender Super Champ X2. With this said, it's recently out of production. They made/sold so many of these though, they should be easy to find used in your area, or on common gear websites (like Reverb). Look around and see if you can find something.

As for the mic, the 520DX is still made, and sounds good, but it is big (most players don't like the size). You may want to get the Hohner HB52... it's much more comfortable and sounds real good.

Report back on your amp findings.

David, I've found some used

David, I've found some used Fender Super Champ X2 for about $350 + shipping. I have a NON-Harmonica player telling me that the Amp below would serve me well and meet all my needs for playing on my own. I am a novice when it comes to equipment. I don't mind paying more for the RIGHT piece of equipment you suggested, but what would be the signifcant difference between the Super Champ X2 and the Fender below? The only other advantage is I could pick this up locally.

I did purchase the Hohner HB52 Mic, arrived yesterday. I need to get the XLR cable for that also. Thanks and I appreciate the guidance.

Thanks!

Hello Peter. If you're

Hello Peter. If you're speaking of the Fender Champion 20, yeah, that's a good starter amp... it will work just fine for your purpose. Good to hear about the HB52. Here's one place you can buy the cable: https://harmonicaland.com/en/cordial-xlr-to-jack-cable-16ft
