Looking at the features of the FInale products I noted in the description for PrintMusic:

"Play a brass or woodwind instrument into a microphone using our exclusive MicNotator"

Does this mean you could play the harp into a microphone and it would notate the music? It says it will record an acoustic single line instrument. This would be spectacular!

Answer

Sounds like it would. Let us know how it works (my version is two years old and doesn't have this feature). Make sure to research "quantize" in the users manual before you record.

Well it works

After struggling through the instructions (and typically as soon as I got it, they made perfect sense - but not before), I did get it to record and notate a simple tune (Three Blind Mice). Playing some improv riffs was a little more 'interesting' to say the least. EIther trumpet or oboe for instrument playback seemed to be as close as I could get (I set it up as if it was a trumpet in C being recorded.

Definitely worth investigating and with a 30 day free trial - I tried the 'second level "PrintMusic" software which was the 'cheapest' package that would notate an instrument being played, it will be worth spending some time to see if this really will save time in notating music played.

Then I read David's Tip of the Day - "Time you spend thinking about, researching, buying and customizing gear is time you're stealing away from becoming a better player." - and ......................................
