I just tried to tune an older harp with a file, but I bent a reed. I guess I have been too carefull...:-)

Is it better to file away fom the fixing point (the rivet) of the reed, or is it OK to file towards the rivet point too? Is it better to use files or better invest in an electronic rotary tool? What good rotary too are shipped to EU, because those mikromark tool are only shipped for high prices... I found the https://www.sayila.nl/sieraden-maken/beadsmith-micro-engraver-graveerpen-e00078/si/45666

reed tuning tools

Hi JD, definitely move from rivet towards the free end of the reed. I recommend the following resources for you:

  1. Harp Tech Series "Tuning". Go to the top of this site, then select EQUIPMENT, scroll down to HARMONICA, then launch the HARP TECH STUDY: "TUNING"

  2. Go to micromark.com and checkout:

Hello again, also check out

Hello again, also check out Harp Tech Study Series #7. Here I demonstrate the benefits of using Ceramic files--probably the least damaging abrasion tool for our harmonica reeds.
