Just started playing harmonica and new to the site. Any thoughts on using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for harmonica?

Some discussion at https://www.bluesharmonica.com/fender_hot_rod_deluxe_amp

And https://www.bluesharmonica.com/fender_hot_rod_deluxe_worth_messing

And David is perpetually checking out and reviewing amps. Post this same question in the Ask Instructor David Barrett thread.

Finally: Do you already HAVE a Hot Rod Deluxe? If so, you're a few steps ahead in the game.

Of course, the discussions about the comparative plusses and minuses of various models of current and vintage amps are part of the great fun here!

Thanks for the response and links!

Yeah, I have one. I've played guitar for years so I have it by default.

Interesting about the tube swap. The amp is loud and I heard about swapping the tubes to tame it for more practical home use for my guitar. Stock maybe to much for the harmonica. Ordered a mic that is coming next week. Guess the neighbors and I will find out! ;-)

dropatan: You might ask folks here, and via David's "Ask Instructor David Barrett" thread whether or not anyone has used an attenuator for playing harp into an amp. I've never used one for harmonica, but years ago (seems like another lifetime) when I regularly played guitar, I had a 50-watt Carvin amp that was exceeding "hot," even for larger venues, and I recall having an attenuator pedal that reduced guitar input, allowing the amp to be turned up so that the tubes really added dimension to the sound, but without blowing folks' ears out. Here's a Reverb listing link re just such an animal for harp use: https://reverb.com/item/25465259-eric-daw-s-magic-harp-box-harmonica-mic... I'll be interested in folks' responses.

attenuator

I've been wanting a attenuator for a long time for playing my guitar but the cost was more then the amp. I was blown away at the $99 dollar price! Thank you so much for the info!
