Hi

I am thinking of buying a Fender Champ 5 watt clone. Seems to be a great choice for bluesharp. Agree?

I can have it custom made; what do you suggest for tubes and speakersize and speakerbrand?

Cheers, Vincent

Champ

Serach the web for the Rick Davis blog. Deep in it he documents completely reworking a 70's Champ and details all the changes he made from tubes to speakers and their impact. Rick is a Denver area harp player who has been loosely connected with Misssion harp amps and now very connected to the Memphis Mini amp.

5F1

it probably depends what sounds you really like, but the 5F1 circuit is the one i'd choose. if you want a little more control, add a treble-cut tone control...but then its a 5F2...and if you use a 10" speaker...thats not really a champ anymore, but a tweed princeton...

i built a 5F1 into an old Harpgear HG2 cab, using a weber 8" (sig 8 alnico).  i didnt instal the cathode bypass cap on stage 1 of the preamp.  (many clones include this but it isnt on many of the original schematics)

i like it, but speaker choices are really rather personal.

tube choices are also really rather dependant on availability and interactions with mics and other choices made in circuits.  no really clear cut easy answers, but start with fairly standard designs. and experiment as much as you are inclined
