Am I hearing it right?  On the sheet music I read 3 triplets (that'd probably sound really cool if I get them in synch), but on the example audio track, I'm hearing (I think) swing 8ths (6+ 6+ 5+ 5+ 5 5).  Am I missing something?

Hello jonbouriaque. I am

Hello jonbouriaque. I am performing the triplets in the recording. What gives you the impression that the middle note of the triplet is missing is that I'm playing it very softly (breathing for the first note of the triplet, letting the remaining air in my lungs play the second part of the triplet, and then breathing again for the third part of the triplet). I'm doing this for dynamic effect. You can choose to play it that way too, or all at the same volume.

I'll take you're word for it

I'll take you're word for it :).  I cranked it UP and couldn't hear the middle notes of those triplets, but your reply does give me an idea how to approach it

Speed with Dynamics

David you reply is very useful (breathing for the first note of the triplet, letting the remaining air in my lungs play the second part of the triplet, and then breathing again for the third part of the triplet)  as it deals with the two things I am concentrating on at the moment speed and dynamics. I did slow down the passage in question and all the notes of the passage are being played with very cool dynamics.  The passage is a very good exercise to include in practice.

I'm glad to hear that John S.

I'm glad to hear that John S. It truly is amazing how much dynamics can be used in music.
