David,

Should I be working to incorporate slaps into Feeling for the Blues as I go on? In fact, more generically, should I be using slaps almost as a matter of course in my playing, to get richer sound?

Thanks!

Answer

Hello Kirsty. Yes, generally speaking you should use slaps as your standard articulation, unless you're going for a more pretty sound, and "Feelin' for the Blues" is a good example of a nice mixture. I do notate where I suggest you use slaps, with the open circle "o" above the note heads to be slapped (the second note of the song has a slap on it for example). After "Gary's Blues" you won't see slap indications, it will be up to you by that point to have a feel of where slaps sound appropriate.
