Hi Skip, i wanted to put  a external speaker jack in a  Gibson Ga-6  i have so i can try different speakers and not have to pull the original p12r speaker everytime. I have a swithchcraft 12A closed circuit jack.  Do I connect the wires from OT pos to tip and neg to ground ring,  then from the internal speaker run pos wire to switch terminal and neg wire to the ground ring with the wire from OT?  This should let me switch from internal speaker to extention cab (8 ohm) safely correct? So with it wired like this the amp will always have a load on it right?

External speaker jack

Hello Bluevan-   The method you described will disconnect the internal speaker when an extension cab is plugged in.   You could also leave the switch terminal alone and just unplug the internal speaker and plug your cab in, but your way is groovy as well.  The best thing would be to mount the jack on the amp chassis, but I'm pretty sure that the output transformer leads were originally soldered directly to the speaker, so you may have to drill a hole in that cool old amp to do it.  Always be certain that a speaker is connected before turning the amp on.

Thanks Skip, yea I didn't

Thanks Skip, yea I didn't want to drill a hole in the chassis  so mounted the jack in a small  L-bracket behind the back panel on the small strip of wood that the panel screws into, looks real clean, you wouldn't even know it was there.  it's nice to not have to take the chassis out every time I want to try a new speaker plus I can preserve the original p12r while keeping it in the amp keeping the stock appearance. Very happy with how it turned out.
