I purchased a Electro Voice model 43 microphone. And it uses a slandered XLR jack. And I have a XLR jack adapter that allow you to hook up a quarter-inch jack. And the microphone wont produce a sound. I dont know if I needs some type of converter hook up. Or if there something wrong on the inside. Any advice would be great.

Hi - do you mean an M43/U?

Hi - do you mean an M43/U? Those (and very smililar brethren) came both in low and high imepdance. And they have an XLR female connector which is unusual - usually mics have a male connector. (And an M23/U had a male XLR xonnector - go figure.) On top of all that, there are 3 ways to wire an XLR connector. It is unlikely that your adapter is going to do the trick - you probably need a custom cable. I can help you with that if you like.

I have some M43/U mics at my shop. I just went out and confirmed that it is low impedance and is wired in balanced mode with the signal on pins 2 and 3, ground/shield to pin 1. What you need is a balanced XLR cable with male connectors at both ends. Then, at the amp end of the cable you can attach a standard imepdance matching transformer

at the amp end of the cable. I have the IMT's for $19, and if you can't find the proper cable I can make one for you.

You could AlSO use a standard XLR cable plus a male to male gender changer/turnaround plug, which in turn plugs into the impedance matching transformer above. The only issue is then you have a big long thing sticking out of your amp's input jack which makes it vulnerable to damage.

EV M43/u diaphragm

I went to my local music store and the owner test my EV M43/u microphone. And when he went inside my microphone he said it was the diaphragm that went bad. And he had no idea were to get another since the microphone was old. Do you know were I could get a matching diaphragm for it? or a modern one that will be compatible with it?

Are you sure? Those things

Are you sure? Those things were used in tanks and they’re pretty bullet proof.

BUT - if you do need one - I have BRAND NEW original replacement elements for that mic. $69.

Please contact me by email (greg@blowsmeaway.com) if you want to order. Tell me where you live so I can quote shipping and I will send you a PayPal invoice.

Cheers
