Hello,

I understand that for a better sound a large embochure is preferable. Would puffing the cheeks make the sound even better?

Best,

Anton

No.

What happens when you inhale? The cheeks are pulled in. If you make the cheeks a part of your oral cavity, its size will be changing constantly as you inhale and exhale.

Instead, focus on making sure that:

  • The opening between your lips and tongue is larger than the hole you're breathing through.
  • You throat is open as if you're yawning.
  • Your tongue is on the floor of your mouth.
  • That your breath makes no noise as you inhale and exhale (try it without a harmonica).
  • That the breath encounteres no resistance as it moves.
  • That your hands are cupped around the harmoncia in a way that enhances the sound.
