Hi David,

Thanks for your great website. It's an inspiring environment for me.

My name is Tim Crins. I play in a Dutch blues/rock 'n roll coverband (www.route66band.nl)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W2LXPy8nxA

On this youtube video you can hear and see my playing (a piece of) Gary Smith's 'Don't Let Go'. I'm using the green bullet.

Can you please give me some feedback?

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes,

Tim

Answer

Welcome to the site Tim. Nice song choice! You sound very nice, well played. Gary Smith uses a lot of tongue blocking techniques, to start off with, the opening lick 2" 2 P 2 P 3 P 3 P 4+ he uses pulls, so you'll want to add that to your vocabulary (Tongue Block Study 3) and the 5+ 4 he uses in the break are slapped, as well as the downbeat notes in the lick I just mentioned, so the slap technique you'll also want to also dial in (Tongue Block Study 2). So, in short, your technique (single notes, bending, rhythm, etc.) sound good, it's time to step up your game and add tongue blocking. Start with Tongue Block Study 1 and submit your recording for my feedback when you're done. Then keep working through all of the tongue block studies.
