Hi David, I've been using the Levels of achievement for a while now - albeit with a good few delays with me having Covid, and am back learning again. I'm not finding it easy at all but trying hard. I am learning on Big River Harp harmonicas but I have recently been very generously bought a set of Marine Band harmonicas. I had no idea that the holes would be different sizes, and I feel like I'm back at square one again - could you give me some advice on how to transition to the much smaller and finer instrument please?

Kind Regards

Nessa

Hello Nessa, welcome back. No

Hello Nessa, welcome back. No tips... just playing the harmonicas will take care of it over time. You'll get it, keep at it.

different harmonicas

Sort of a related question:  I've been playing and following the LOA course for two years now.  To experiment with different harmonicas, I've bought a different model each time I need a new key.  I thought I would find a clear favorite, but have only narrowed it down to two.  Would you recommend either for or against playing different harmonicas?  How common is it for players to move between make/model of harmonicas?

Thanks,

Jules

Hello Jules. For some players

Hello Jules. For some players it's easy (quick to adjust) for them to play different models. For others it throws them off a lot. I would say once you've narrowed it down to your favorite, it's not a bad idea to just purchase that one model from now on. Since size and spacing varies a little bit, I would tend to think you'll get a higher degree of consistency/accuracy in your playing, especially for things like the shading of two-note textures.
