Hello Kinya!

Could you please answer my question about compatibility of Hohner and Seydel reeds. I want to replace a failed 5-draw reed on my Hohner Marine Band Deluxe, but Hohner store offers only reed sets (not individual reeds) for 49,93 euro. Can I use Seydel reeds for this purpose - for example this http://www.seydel1847.de/epages/Seydel1847.sf/sece9285ddcad/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Seydel/Products/113018000  or even these steel reeds  http://www.seydel1847.de/epages/Seydel1847.sf/sece9285ddcad/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Seydel/Products/162018000

Thank you,

Sergei

Hi Sergei, good to hear from

Hi Sergei, good to hear from you.

Yikes, I believe that works out to about $10.82 USD per reed ($54.11 sold in 5 pack).

I'm afraid using reeds (Seydel) outside of the Hohner product line will not work.

My recommendation would be to look through your box of discarded Hohner harmonicas (including: Special 20, Marine Band 1896, Golden Melody and of course, Marine Band Deluxe) to harvest reeds. You did not mention what Key harmonica is on your surgery table, but let us assume it is a C Hohner Marine Band Deluxe--which means you require a F reed replacement.

Here are your choices:

  • #5 draw reed from a C harmonica
  • #3 draw reed from a F# harmonica
  • #5 blow reed from a C harmonica (this will be an E, only 1/2 step away from F, and easy to tune up ;o)
  • #5 draw reed from a B harmonica (this too will be an E, only 1/2 step away from F, and easy to tune up ;o)

Individual reeds

Hi Kinya, I noticed Sergei quoted price in Euros, so I assume has access to hohner Europe store...individual reeds should be available there. I suggest contact Hohner. I buy packs of 5 reeds from them for 4.33 euro (Including 19% VAT!) I've done this for the last 18 months. They are just a bit tricky to find on the website (in the 'downloads' section...look to the right of the page, near the top) but the folk at hohner are helpful in my experience.

all the best, Dave

No I'm afraid he was a little

No I'm afraid he was a little too far north for me...up around Wollongong...a bit over 900 miles away.  i saw some video of the show though.  mm...not quite the same is it...
