Kinya, can you tell me if I can put a Crossover harp in an ultrasonic cleaner?  I am a beginner and just not sure of this one.

Thanks!!

Cleaning Cross Over Comb

Hello Dmartin87

I would not recommended soaking the bamboo comb in the ultrasonic cleaner. Instead try this:

  • Disassemble and place all "metal" parts into the ultrasonic cleaner
  • Depending on how many hours of playing time you have on this instrument, you will find the mating surfaces of the bamboo comb discolored with a pond scum green color (saliva and brass mixed together). This is harmless; however, if it bothers you, place the comb onto of 400grit or 600grit sandpaper. With evenly applied downward pressure, gently slide the comb forward/back until you rid the discoloration. The bamboo is soft, so be careful not to disturb the flatness of the comb's mating surfaces.
  • Use a toothbrush to remove Harmonicoccus from the slots and mouthpiece of the comb.
  • Re-assemble and enjoy!

Your Harpsmith, Kinya
