Dave I have a Hohner 10 hole chromatic harmonica. The 5 hole sounds real fluttery in and out ?? can I clean this thing ?? I see you have lessons but no 10 hole ? Do I have a freak ?? Im worried about pulling it apart ? May not be able to put it back ? If I purchase a new one do you have any suggestions . I am finishing LOA 7 and thought I would play with the chromatic ? Should I just start LOA 8 and keep moving on ? Or try to repair this chromatic ? Someone gave it to me so I could open it up and try to fix it ?? Relly enjoy the lessons .Thanks

Hello wahoo.

Though I use a 12 hole in the lesson, the 10 hole is the same harmonica, just minus the two top holes (you won't really miss them).

The issue with your hole 5 is probably the wind saver. Check out this video on how to clean them https://www.bluesharmonica.com/sissy_jones_interview_–_hohner_chromatic_service_tech

I like the 12 Hole Hohner Super Chromonica 270 Deluxe

No, not strange... some

No, not strange... some people like the smaller size. I like to have the 3 octaves of range with the 12 hole.

Strange?

wahoo: I have an inexpensive 10-hole I take traveling, hiking and biking. Don't know if it's strange, or if it's me that's strange.

You'll learn that the chromatic comes in all sorts of hole arrangements. While 12 may be most common, many great artists (not just blues) like the four-octave range of the 16-hole, especially as it typically goes an octave lower than the 12-hole. But there are also 14-holes, 10-holes, and even 8-holes. At one time I kept an 8-hole Hohner Chrometta in the center console of our car. I don't keep our car as clean as most players keep their harmonicas. It got pretty grungy over the years, and about a year ago I gave it away to someone who was up for cleaning it, replacing windsavers, etc.

Adapting melodies that use all 12 holes on a 12-hole to play them on just 10 holes will be a fun exercise.
