Hi,

I'm just starting on Blues Chromatic Study 3 and have found that no matter what I do in my Hohner CX12 I cant get dips to work in hole 4 and above. Holes 1 to 3 are fine, so, I think my technique isnt 100% off. Is there anything I should do to the reeds to help this? Or is it just practice?

Thanks,

Graham

Hello Graham. No need to do

Hello Graham. No need to do any reed work, it's technique. The higher you go on the chromatic the more of the front of the tongue you need to use, further forward in your mouth. Focus on creating a small chamber in the front of your mouth to control those bends. Bending on the chromatic very much feels like the embouchure used for blow bending on the diatonic harmonica. Jump over to Bending Study 6 and work on your technique there... that study will help tremendously.

Hi again,

I notice that you talk about choosing pucker or tongue block for blow bends, depending on what you have originally haven't learnt earlier. So, does this mean you suggest the same for the dips on all holes on chromatic?

Thanks,

Graham

Hello Graham. If you've been

Hello Graham. If you've been playing everything in a tongue block on your chro, keep tongue blocking.
