Chromatic blues where next?
Hi,
Having previously gone through David's 5 lessons and his Swingin With George artist piece, I'm wondering where to go next to continue my learning journey of blues on this instrument. Anyone got any ideas or advice?
Thanks,
Graham
Another good resource for chromatic and learning to read music for it is Max de Aloe's book "Method for Chromatic Harmonica" - https://www.shermusic.com/1883217717.php I'm working through it now.
Rod Piazza, George Smith, William Clarke, Dennis Gruenling. Plenty to learn there on the (West Coast style) blues side of chromatic.
The jazz side is a totally different beast. Really cool, but totally different. Check out Toots and Antonio Serrano. And Larry Adler, if you go that way.
Graham:
"Big Harp George" Bisharat plays a lot of differnt blues tunes in various keys, all on C chromatic. A great way to learn. Pick up his CDs, and then check out his list of keys and harps on his web site.
George, in turn, worked on scales in all keys via lessons (first volume on DVD, second volume on website) produced by Nashville-based Ross Walters. Check out Ross at www.chromaticlessons.com.
And if you want to go down a jazz rabbit hole that also includes blues, check out jazz chromatic player Yvonnick Prene, at www.yvonnick.prene.com. He's got variious lesson series. But be forewarned: His tablature system is very different from David's.
