I'm still practicing Temperature and trying to get the feel of holding the mic while I'm playing. As tight as I hold it, I don't get much of a Wa-Wa effect. I noticed in the Mp3 example that you played, you skipped the Wa-Wa and just went for the notes. Can one get a good Wa-Wa effect with a bullet mic?

Answer

In general, yes, you don't get as good of a Wa Wa effect while playing with the bullet. Some notes, like a 2", sound great with a Wa, but others, like the 5 don't. It has to do with coverage of the face of the harmonica. While playing the 2" your lips cover the lower holes, your right cheek covers up to around hole 8 and your thumb covers the highest holes (see my cupping videos). While playing the 5 draw, you can cover the mid and top holes, the lower end of the harp is open, so the Wa is weak.
