Ive just been doing a play along with Love me do.  On listening closely to the harp liks I hear one I can imagine.  The first few notes sound like a fast tremelo.   In the first few bars there is almost a growling or buzzing effect about 8 seconds into the into.

Any idea how to create that hot sound or was it electronic (dount it in 1963)

As you wait for Winslow's

As you wait for Winslow's answer, I'll throw out a thought. I play saxophone, and the sound reminds me of what folks call a flutter tongue. The effect is basically a Spanish rolled r, done while playing the sax. A related effect is a "growl," which is more or less just growling (like you're clearing your throat) while playing. You could find far more detailed and accurate accounts of these two sax effects on the internet.
