Know your dealer

Buy from a dealer who has a good reputation for delivery and communication and offers competitive pricing. If that dealer also happens to be a harmonica specialaist, even better. One such is Rockin' Ron: http://rockinronsmusicsd.com

Picked up a bargain

I usually take a look in a second-hand shop in Dartford, Kent (UK) when I am in the town centre. They have a selection of stuff in there: fishing gear, TVs , guitars etc. This Saturday I saw they had 3 chromatic harmonicas for sale. A ten hole and a 12hole for £15 (about $23) each and a 16 hole Hohner Chromonica 280 for £30 (about $46). Someone else was looking at the harmonicas and we both realized what a bargain they were. I am only a beginner as far as the chromatic goes but it was in good working order so I bought the 16 hole and the other harmonica fan bought the 12 hole. I would agree that you should normally use a reputable dealer but some spur-of-the-moment bargains are out there with a bit of luck.

Seeing it and touching it helps

Great finds! If you're in an actual physical store you can see what you're getting. It's online where you have tobe careful of sellers who may not deliver on their offering.
