Hey you guys,

I have a fender frontman 25r;

  • 25W
  • 10" speaker
  • 2 channels (normal and drive)
  • Footswitchable reverb
  • Headphone jack
  • Aux RCA input
  • Silver grille cloth
  • Skirted knobs
  • Controls include treble, mid, bass, volume, gain, and drive

  • 17"W x 15-1/2"H x 8-1/2"D

Which I used for my electric guitar playing (don't do that anymore :D). I was wondering if I should sell it and get what I saw david recommended for a first amp, which is the Fender Super Champ XD... what do you think?

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend a Greg Heumann modded Kalamazoo if you're reasonably close to the US and can afford the shipping costs. Greg has a waiting list and you're under no obligation to buy but it will take time to get near the top. A line out is an option Greg offers and is almost essential if you plan to use the amp on different sized stages. The rougher looking the amp is the less you'll generally pay but Greg fixes them all up enough that they won't fall apart and the more used ones give off a cool vibe.

"Prices range from about $289

"Prices range from about $289 (for a beat up Model 1) to $439 (for a really clean Model 2.) Remember, even the "beat up" ones are mechanically sound and work fine - they just have more "character" or "patina" than the cleaner ones..... Shipping in the continental U.S. runs about $35. (I do not sell these internationally, sorry. The cost to ship is astronomical - Like $215 to France.)":D quite impossible, but thanks for the offer. any thoughts regarding the difference between the amps I presented?

amps

i'd say the super champ is likely a better harp amp than the frontman, but ive not played the frontman so i cant really say.  i think they dont have much resale value, so id give it a whirl anyway...

ive not tried the SC XD, (the current model is the X2, the XD is no longer made), but i have the VibroChamp XD, which IMHO is really quite a useful harp amp.

there are a lot of choices in amps; the main thing is to know what job you want it to do.

if you mainly just want to practice playing amplified harp at home...the SCXD may be a little too much amp.  your frontman may be fine for that use, especially if you use something like a lone wolf harp break pedal and/or delay with it...and work out how to get the best from it...which just takes time and experimentation
