Hi David,

Just a quick question:
Do we expend more breath when we tongue block?
Because I seem to be able to hold the note longer when I pucker.

Regards
Sridhar

Answer

No, it's the same. If you use any technique, such as a slap, flutter, octaves, etc., they will all use more air due to the nature of the fact that you're playing more than one note.
