That was fun! .....I played the chorus you wrote for me in our lesson to get to know the blues scale against Pete Schmidt's Slow Minor in D jam track. It sounds great, and I can move those notes around within the chord and they work! Just played around with the rhythm a bit for that groove.

I: 6+ / 6+ 5 4 4' 4+ 3' / 2
IV: 4+ 4+ 2 3' / 4+ 4+ 2 3' /I: 6+ 5 4 4' 4+ 3' / 2
V: 4 5 4 5 4 / 4+ 4+ 2 3' 4+ / 2

Do I remember correctly, I could add a 6 if I wanted for the I chord for minor, yes? What about the IV and V?

Also, I notice there are blue notes in the I chord (3', 4', and 5), but not in the IV or V....did you do that on purpose? Is it a matter of emphasizing them in the I chord, or just a matter of using them judiciously on the whole?

(I like slow blues in minor... :-)

Nice way to end 4 days of playing, singing, and dancing the blues.

Annamarie

Cool. Yes, you can ad 6 draw, it's the 2nd (or 9th... depending how you look at it) and will work just fine for the I7 Chord. Do not play it for the IV7 Chord (it's the Major 6th). It's fine for the V7 Chord, it's the 5th of that chord... an important note.

The 3' is the flat-7 of the IV7... so that's a Blue Note. The 5 is the flat-3rd of the V Chord... so that's a Blue Note. Right?

Glad you're liking it... it's just another of many ways to look at blues.

Thanks, David, I clearly had

Thanks, David, I clearly had my "math" wrong and had to recheck it. Sorry if this is hard to read.

Blues Scale Intervals: 1 b3 4 b5 5 b7 1 (flatted notes are blue notes)

2nd Position / I7:
Notes: G Bb C C# D F G
holes: 2 3' 4+ 4'/1' 4 5/2" 6+

1st Position / IV7:
Notes: C Eb F F# G Bb C
holes: 2 x 2" 2' 2 3' 4+

3rd Position / V7:
Notes: D F G Ab A C D
holes: 1 2"/5 3+ 3"'/6' 3" 4+/1+ 4

Does that seem right?

Hopefully, this was a useful exercise for me.....didn't play a lot tonight.....tomorrow.

Best,

Annamarie

P.S. Now, if that's the right understanding, on to getting it from left brain to right......for improvising and hearing in songs......
