Blues Creepin' Over Me start
Hi David
I'm not sure if I'm missing something here with the Intro to Blues Creepin' Over Me... it threw me for six when I tried playing along to the jam track, expecting a 4-count in. Looking back at Ex. 3.1 and then jumping ahead to watch you play it right through, I've gathered that we're actually starting on the upbeat (AND) of 3 as per the blues break examples, but I don't get why that's not notated.
Is it just a slip-up, or is there a musical reason that I've missed?
Thanks
Joel
Sure, I'm happy to help Joel. I understand the confusion. I don't dig into music notation much, so these things can pop up from time to time. Most students (vast majority) use the TAB and the audio recording, and don't want to dig into music notation. Just drop me a note and I'll be happy to help if a question like this comes up.
I agree... it creates a nice visual of the rhythm too (as well as contour of the melody), even if one is not actually reading it for note values.
Hello Joel. You're correct, the first lick starts on the "and" of 3. If you look at the notation, the first bar is not a full bar, it shows as a pickup. If you count the note values, it equals a beat and a half. So, 4 beat count in minus 1.5, gives you a start on the upbeat after the third click.
