Hey David... I can hit the blow bends fairly well while puckering but can't seem to get much of any bend at all while tongue blocking. Yes I can draw bend quite well while tongue blocking the low notes. Is this a common conundrum? I would like to be able to tongue block them to ward off those squeaky unwanted notes that puckering accidentily hits. Suggestions? Fran

Answer

Hello Fran. It takes time to develop tongue block blow bends, so keep working it each day... you will get it. The key is to make your embouchure very small in the front, and to use the very front part of the tongue, just behind where your tongue touches the face of the harmonica. The cavity that controls the bend needs to be very small. Don't worry about tone at first... focus on achieving the pitch... then you can work on relaxing and developing a good tone. Best wishes with this.
