Thank you so much Skip, in advance. I have JT30 microphone and I am in the market for a practice amplifier around $100. I have just started the intermediate lessons and I would like some amplification.

Is there a amp that I could have the backing tracks played through them also, or is it best to use my Ipad with some speakers.

I have a laptop computer too, but I want to be able to get out in the sunshine soon and jam.

Will

more on practice amps.......

Hello Will- Thanks for writing. Well, that is a good question that I honestly feel our BH readers could answer better than I could. I just don't have a lot hands-on experience with new amps. On the plus side, there certainly has been a lot of discussion on your topic. Check out past questions and answers right here at BH.com!

However, you get a gold star (or a golden microphone!) for realizing that ANY amp will get you well on your way to controlling your tone through cupping, embouchure, and practice.

wmartin: You can get a

wmartin: You can get a Pignose for around that price range that is rechargeable and lasts 4-5 hours on a charge. That'll get you out in the sun. You'll want a tube amp eventually, and it's pretty hard to find a decent one that will suite your purposes for that price range. Go to Guitar Center with your mic and try out the Pignose. Also, if you want something super small for around $20 or $30, you can get a DanElectro Honeytone.

The vht special 6 combo amp

The vht special 6 combo amp is a great small amp too to consider, has 2 inputs so you could run backing tracks through it using iPod, iPad , laptop ect. And play same time. But it is a little more $, around $200-250 .

Try the Roland Micro Cube, it

Try the Roland Micro Cube, it is portable, light weight, could be battery powered.
It works great with a harmonica mic and you can play with a backtrack using the auxiliar imput. It also got a lot of fx, and 5 diferent amp modulations. Give it a try you will love it!
