Hello,

I've been practicing the very first lessons in the site and I'm really thankfull for all the explanations and tips.

Though, when practicing on the very beginning - playing single note, sometims it works well when I blow but the note doesn't really works when I draw.

What could be the problem?

Thanks,

Michal

Answer

Welcome to the site Michal. Yes, draw notes are a little bit more challenging. The key is to use a light touch with your lips and tongue and to play with an open mouth cavity (a slight yawn, with your jaw dropped slightly, tongue in the middle/back low and throat open for good tone production). Your mouth wants to squeeze in when drawing, constructing the air passage, and will commonly cause the note to bend, squeal and not want to sound. Work on this, and be patient, it takes a couple of months to achieve a consistent sound on a wind instrument. Best wishes on your studies.
