Hi David,

Audacity

Ive downloaded audicity and completed everything as per instruction on this site. The problem is, when i start to record over the jam track, the recording doesnt start until after the jam trak has finished. Have you any ideas please

Improvisation

Absolutly loving the site. The one thing that I would like to excel at is the improvisation. Would this be a case of picking out all my favourite licks, fills and V, IV I's or do you any other ways to get better at this which I should follow.

Thankyou,

Kind regards,

Paul

Hello Paul. I'm glad you're

Hello Paul. I'm glad you're enjoying the site.

I have no idea what your issue is with Audacity. I just asked John to see if he's heard of this issue.

You're right... taking the licks that you've learned in your study songs and improvising with them (using the Chorus Form process) is the key. We'll do a lot of this in our lessons together as you progress in the LOA.

Audacity with Windows

David:

Please forgive me for stepping into your forum...

I too had the issue of Audacity appending my audio to the end (albeit the second channel) of the jam track.

I viewed Professor John Shirley's terrific "How To" video on Audacity multiple times but I could not find the solution, so I dug through the Audacity manual.

When you run Audacity on Windows, in order to record audio on a second track in the same time realm as the jam track:hold down the "SHIFT" key at the same time as you click on the "Record" button.

If you go into “edit”

If you go into “edit” “preferences” then ”recording”, select “Record on a new track”. This will put a tick in that box, click on ok at the bottom of the preferences dialogue box, then when you click on the record button with a jam track loaded you will start recording on a new track at the beginning of the jam track.
